UI and UX design are two aspects of web design that complement each other. While UI is concerned with the design of the user interface, UX is concerned with the overall user experience as they interact with your product or service.

UI and UX designers can use UI design tools to create accurate hi-fi wireframes, mockups, and prototypes, as well as minimally viable products. They represent a design’s nuts and bolts, communicating its functionality.
UX design tools are concerned with the user and how they will interact with the content. These tools can aid in the structure of the information architecture as well as the flow of the experience. Because this is more conceptual, UX tools assist a designer in painting a larger picture of how content and organization will affect the experience.
We’ll look at some UI and UX tools that you might find helpful during the design process. Some of these tools have features that work in both UX and UI, but we’ve divided the list into two categories for your convenience.
The first 10 tools on this list are excellent for UI design, while tools 11–15 are excellent for UX. Let’s take a look at each one and see how you can make beautiful projects with them.
You’ve probably heard of Sketch if you’ve done any UI design. And there are several reasons why it is one of the most revered design tools.
The ability to make a universal change—whether through their library of symbols, layer styles, or text styles, or through its smooth resizing and alignment features—saves designers time and allows them to deliver consistent prototypes.
It eliminates the tediousness and frees designers to create. And, with a plethora of third-party plugins that seamlessly integrate, there is no shortage of tools that can be used with Sketch.
InVision provides designers with all of the UI design tools they need to create fully realised and functional prototypes with dynamic elements and animations.
Along with these simple UI design tools, they facilitate communication by providing collaboration features that allow developers to share their work as they design it, receive feedback, and make documented changes at each stage. The digital whiteboard, which allows team members to get their ideas out there, interact, and get that all-important sign-off before moving forward, is another useful feature of InVision
Axure helps with prototyping and workflow management. It has a simple interface for documenting as you go. This app is driven by high fidelity, resulting in detailed prototypes. Many other features of popular prototyping and UI design tools are available in Axure.
It enables functionality testing and brings everything together for an easy developer handoff. This, combined with an emphasis on communication, ensures that everyone involved in a project is kept up to date on progress and changes as they occur in real time, making Axure an excellent choice for UI design.
According to Proto.io, using their UI design software results in “prototypes that feel real.” And Proto.io delivers, providing everything you need to create, organize, integrate, and test precise mockups. It also facilitates collaboration by encouraging communication among team members through comments and video feedback, as well as integrating with well-known testing products such as Lookback, Userlytics, and Validately.
It’s difficult to unseat Adobe as the king of design software; their kingdom of design products reigns supreme in the creative cloud. Adobe XD includes vector-based user interface tools for creating prototypes and mockups, as well as a user interface familiar to anyone who has used other Adobe products. This, combined with real-time collaboration, makes it a favorite among UI designers.
Adobe XD includes many sophisticated tools for UI designers. Still, it also includes everything designers need to create interactions and other dynamic elements that can be integrated into prototypes or mockups. It’s one of the few design platforms that can combine different disciplines without missing a beat.
Whether you’ve been a UI designer for a while or are just starting out, Marvel’s design platform makes things simple. It provides a UI designer with everything they need, including the ability to create low-fidelity and high-fidelity wireframes, interactive prototypes, and user testing, all wrapped up in an intuitive interface. Marvel also has a feature called Handoff, which provides developers with all of the HTML code and CSS styles they need to get started.
Figma allows designers to create dynamic prototypes and mockups, test them for usability, and keep track of all progress. Figma, like Google Docs, provides a collaborative environment in which multiple people can work on a project at the same time, allowing you to see who has it open for real-time collaboration.
You’ll be able to see who is working and what they are doing. It’s also browser-based, so anyone can access it right away. As an added bonus, it’s free for individual use, so you can test it out and become acquainted with how it works.
Framer X has evolved since its humble beginnings as a code-only prototyping application. It now provides a plethora of UI design tools for creating functional prototypes and testing usability. Its compatibility with React makes it ideal for UI designers who want to stay up-to-date on the latest web design innovations.
Framer X also has a plugin store where UI designers can get features like UI kits for integrating social media channels like Snapchat and Twitter, players for embedding various media, grids, and other useful components that can be easily integrated. It’s an excellent interface design tool with a low learning curve.
With a Facebook pedigree (it was built by and for Facebook designers), Origami Studio packs in more complexity than InVison or Sketch, which are easier for design beginners. Origami Studio has a lot to offer those who need a more advanced prototyping tool as part of their design system.
This platform provides the tools required to create complete prototypes that are powered by a sophisticated patch editor, allowing designers to integrate advanced functionality. Prototypes are designed to look and function like real apps or websites.
Origami Studio works well with Sketch as well. Working in parallel with Sketch allows you to bring in layers and directly copy and paste them.
When creating a user experience strategy, designers must consider structure, flowa, and corresponding sitemaps, which are all at the heart of UX design.
Whereas many tools attempt to combine UI and UX into a single platform, FlowMapp focuses solely on the discipline of UX design. Building user flows and visual sitemaps is essential for UX design, and these are the pillars of FlowMapp’s UX design app.
Balsamiq‘s user-friendly interface makes it simple to create low-fidelity wireframes. Even people with no prior experience with wireframing could jump in and create some that look good. Balsamiq includes both UI and UX, but its low-fidelity wireframes really stand out. Balsamiq’s nod to whiteboarding’s physicality makes the tool accessible to anyone, regardless of skill level.
VisualSitemaps is a company that creates, you guessed it, visual sitemaps. It’s convenient to have a tool designed specifically for this purpose. This tool is completely automated, has the ability to crawl password-protected websites that haven’t yet gone live, and can be imported into Sketch. VisualSitemaps accelerates the process of creating visual sitemaps for UX designers, developers, and anyone else who needs to be involved in the process.
A design’s visual components are important, but without great content, it’s nothing more than an empty vessel. It is not enough to have high-quality content; it must also be organised in a way that maximises accessibility. This is where information architecture enters the picture.
Treejack is an expert in information architecture. It allows you to put a website’s tree structure to the test with real users. It then generates results that show a user’s path and navigation through the content, providing you with valuable insights to edit and tweak the content organisation.
Wireframes don’t have to be complicated, and keeping them simple allows them to communicate how a design should be structured in a straightforward manner.
Wireframe keeps its wireframing tools as simple as possible. By purposefully limiting the color palette and using simple rectangular elements along with an uncomplicated interface, UX designers can quickly create a low-fidelity wireframe. There’s even an in-browser demo to show you how it works.
As a UX design platform, Optimal Workshop provides everything you need to analyse usability, plan information architecture, and test and evaluate a design.
Optimal Workshop stands out by providing insights and in-depth data about users and how they interact with a design. This carefully curated UX platform provides tree testing with Treejack, first-click testing with Chalkmark, online surveys, and Reframer for qualitative research. Bundling these tools creates a set of tools that any UX designer would find helpful.
UI and UX are constantly evolving. Along with web design changes and trends, UI and UX must adapt to these new practices and approaches. Keep an eye on Made in WMAD.IO for the most recent updates!
